Yes, rectified to DC with diodes and the unrectified frequency varies with engine speed.

Andrew, congratulations!   I am sure you will love your new engine.   

Your first service item is at 25 hours where the transmission fluid requires changing.   Don't be surprised when the fluid looks pretty yucky.   Apparently the clutches get seated in those first hours and thereafter it runs clear.

I am really not sure.
Marina mechanic took it to an alternator shop.
All I really got was third hand techno babble.
If I find out more, I will post

Right from the horse's petoot..

The factory installed the external field wire but left the stock regulator wiring in place.
When the Balmar regulator was connected , it fried the stock wiring.

All works now.

Great engine, smooth, quiet , fires up instantly with a turn of the key.

The install technician fabricated  a beautiful new control panel out of black starboard to accommodate the optional "C" panel.
