Alright, I realize that this may be the first of many "dumb" ones.....but???

How do you lower the Dinette? I've tried unscrewing the black knob attached to the vertical post...and took it completely out. Nothing happened...

I tried lifting it up, pushing it down...no joy.

Thanks up front!

A search on "saloon table" found this, among others:

Don't ever oil it.

The first few times I did it I had to remove the table top and almost stand on the post to get it to compress.  After a few times it loosened up and got easier.  Do not lubricate it.  The reason is buried somewhere in the archives, but the manufacturer said it's a no no.

Josh:

Whatever you do don't lubricate it (WD 40 or anything else).   It messes up the seals and freezs the thingyou will end up getting a new post.  Trust me!
