Maintenance on Northstar Head Sail Furler

Hey y'all...I have a Northstar furler.  I'm assuming it is original equipment and that makes it 23 years old (1987 Mk I).  I want to do some proactive mainteance.  Does anyone have a manual or a link to best practices on maintenance?  I also want to replace the line as it is getting frayed.  Can anyone "steer me north (star)" ?
