When I first remove the engine dip stick, the oil level only covers about 1/4" of the tip. When reinserted and removed, the level indicated increases to the full mark, which is correct. Could anyone explain why? This seems to happens after the engine has not been used at least for several days.

Hi,

Can an existing post, which secures a turning block and is located on the side of the mast collar be moved to the aft end of the collar, in place of the mounting screw? Is the collar threaded to accept the post? Does someone make a eye strap that would fit over the exposed threaded ends of the U- strap used to connect the deck to mast turnbuckle located in the salon ceiling?

I'm installing a rigid vang on a Mark I, and need to reroute the main sheet so it doesn't rub on the vang. In order to run parallel and aft of the vang, I need to mount a block below the vang's mast fitting. Can a post on the side of the mast collar be moved to the aft end of the collar, in place of the mounting screw?

Thanks for any help.

Main Message Board / Length of waste hose toilet ?
September 17, 2017, 06:44:18 AM
Hi,
Does a purchase length of 10 ft seem about right for a 89 C34?
What's the length of 1.5" dia waste hose needed to replace the three lengths of waste hose: toilet to tank, seacock to macerator and tank to macerator?  Does 10 ft seem about right? I'm unexpectedly going by Defender in CT and would like to pick up some Raritan hose that's on sale.

Has anyone had good resultsperformance using Raritan Sani / Flex Sanitation Hose ?

Thanks,
Chris

Has Ron Hill or anyone else ever expanded on this topic?
"I'm in the process of writing an article for the Mainsheet Tech notes on this topic. ..........." from Alert - Engine Crankshaft Lipseals"? I was unable to find any further discussion. I may need to replace the seal, and it appears leaks after replacement happened to him.

Wanted Bimini frame w/ or w/o cover ; preferred width 80" at mounting to pushpit rails, but I'll consider any size and modify by cutting frame to size

I have a 1989 C34

Main Message Board / 110% vs 130% genoa
February 24, 2017, 08:18:27 AM
Is a polar plot for a 110%genoa available on C34? I need a genoa and I have an opportunity to purchase a nearly new 110% for $1000, from a C36. I'm satisfied by the performance of my worn out 130% genoa in 12 knts  and above, but my partner just destroyed it. I sail in Long Island Sound.

Would someone with experience estimate the boat speed difference for a wind speed between 10 knts and 15 knots, close haul, 110% vs 130% or similar. I expect that boat speed is within a 1 knot above 15 kts the close hauled.

Thanks,
Chris

Main Message Board / Toilet to waste tank Hose Path
June 24, 2015, 06:23:38 AM
Our toilet discharge hose routes straight from manual toilet under floor under chart table and up to tank. The toilet overflows as I believe there's not enough water height above Joker valve to back pressure it closed. Is there a recommended best route for my 89 C34?   I plan to rerun sanitation hose with a loop located in the storage compartment behind the chart table with a max height about 10" above the top of the waste tank. Straight run up to loop from the tank, with exposed hose along hull surface under  the chart table. This will result in only one uphill run of hose, from toilet outlet to top of the loop.   I may add a vacuumn break to loop, but rather not.

Any help appreciated.
