Main Message Board / Re: Fuel mileage

A friend of mine has a 36' Catalina and when he first got it he filled up the tank to full and on one of the tacks the fuel leaked up a hose or out of the tank somehow and they had to siphon it out of the bilge.  Anybody have any similar experiences to that on the 34'?

FYI - We just moved our boat from a smaller lake to Lake Michigan and I'm planning to completely fill the tank and probably motor more than usual if the weather doesn't cooperate.  Just wanted to be prepared...

I hate to ask this question but about how many miles does a full tank of diesl fuel last?  It's a 25 gallon tank and my guess is about 150 miles on a calm day (or about 20 hours).  Can anybody confirm this?

Main Message Board / We keep our C34 in Oshkosh

Probably a 5 hour drive from Duluth but we keep our C34 at the Pioneer Resort in Oshkosh.  Glad to give you a tour but I'm sure there is a C34 in Duluth.  Call Owens Yacht Broker as we looked at one of their C34's a few years ago.  Good Luck...

Main Message Board / Vibration in Steps
July 10, 2005, 07:24:28 PM
The steps going down to the galley (over the engine) are vibrating very bad.  The cause appears to be the bottom 2 step panel isn't fitting in the groove on the port side like it used to.  Don't know if the wall to the head has moved a little or what.  Even with the engine off, the bottom 2 step panel moves out of the grove when we walk down the steps.  Anybody else experienced this and successfully fixed it?

Main Message Board / Jib Sheet Block
July 10, 2005, 06:46:20 PM
I should have been more specific.  My jib sheet goes through 2 blocks.  One on the track as Ron has mentioned and the other through a block at the transom and back to the winch.  It's this latter block that the sheave is broken in.

And Ron, you and I have had this conversation before.  Your wife went to high school with my father (Richard Schacht - Itsy).  We previously sailed out of Fond du Lac (first 17 years or so) and the last 7 have been out of the Pioneer Resort in Oshkosh.

The sheave on my jib sheet block has broken.  I use a half inch line through the block.  Anybody recognize the manufacturer or have done this before?

I have no idea if I've attached the image correctly.  Sorry if it doesn't work...

Main Message Board / C34 Pointing

We have a 1990 wing keel standard rig and I can't point better than 100 - 110 degrees tacking angle.  We use a 150 genoa and the sails are most likely original (I've owned for past 6 years).
