Krafty : I believe on your boat the glow plugs are activated by the spring loaded (momentary) turn of the key. One turn of the key is ON and the next spring loaded position is the Glow Plugs.

I suggest the you take the owners manual and study all of the syatems

Bay : What it look like to me is that the factory layup for the traveler support is not a straight horizontal line.  It appears that the factory put some kind of washer to act as a spacer for those ends because the traveler bars will NOT bend down to meet the under side support.

If you are up to it?, I'd remove the traveler from the boat and reinstall with a thick rubber washer with brutal rubber between the washer and the underside support.

Rich : Here's another route. Go along the inside of the setae ridge up to the battery compartment and drill a small hole so the the wire can go into the battery compartment. Go thru the battery compartment to the end of the battery compartment and then down and follow the battery wires thru the factory conduit pipes and then up to the instrument panel.

I'd recommend that you take some light line or string and have it follow both of the routes and then you can decide which to run the actual wire. I'd recommend 12 gage wire (at least 14 gage).

In conjunction with that T you can add an external strainer attach[ed with just a bead of caulk.  In the unlikely event that the external strainer is fouled you can use that same dowel and T to pop it off. 😎[/quote]

I wrote that up in the Mainsheet tech notes, did it and have never had to pop the strainer OFF!!
I've hear of some people that have attached the dink pump and blown out a clog!!

Krafty : You have just asked the guy that installed a wired Data Marine wind on the top - with the mast in place (UP).
I wrote an extensive Mainsheet tech note article. Essentially we ran a 14gage stiff wire thru the mast cap, into the conduit and out the bottom. Still working today!!   :thumb:

Noah : I've had 2 jams from hydrilla and one jam from sea grass. I put on that strainer and have NEVER had a jam since. That was over 25 years ago!!

cliff : I installed a round bronze strainer in the outside of the hull for the engine intake of raw water. Did that 25?? years ago and have never had to take any "snake" to any thing in that line.

Noah : The early MK 1 1986 production C34s did not have an aft water tank!!

Kevin : Yes, you always want to "crack" the throttle when starting the engine !!

she : Please list your hull # and production year !!  I'm sure that Noah has ASSUMED that you have a MK 1 C34 and NOT an early 1986 production boat!!

Justin : You need to look at the glow plug Modification in the mainsheet tech notes and the critical updates. It allows you to hit the glow plugs for 5/10 seconds.
Even without that mod. I NEVER had to hold the glow plugs for more than 10 seconds - 15 at the most!!

Justin : It sounds to me that you have a double problem. You need to look at the raw water pump as it should have sucked up some water without being primed. Look at the blades, the inside of the face plate should be smooth with NO grooving, the gasket should be paper thin. If you've checked all of that forget the raw water pump as the engine can run for 10? seconds with out raw water!!

Don't know what to tell you about the fuel as you've covered that. Is you decompression lever closed???

Dan : The light half way up the mast - down shine is a deck light   forward shine - is the steaming light (should be on with the nav lights).

Don't think that you can use a wire that goes to the top of the mast as a leader wire because it has a knot tied around the bolt up there (to take the strain of that length of wire of of the connection)

The VHF cable wire should go to the top of the mast antenna!!

dan : I spent one afternoon and soldered each and every connection on the back side of the engine instrument panel. It was a back breaking job, but I've NEVER had a problem since!!  :thumb:

Dan : Heat shrink over the crimp is the way to go. I'd use Anchor heat shrink because it seals.
Your question on the "steaming lights" I believe that the compass light is also in that circuit with the bow and stern lights.

I also got rid of all of the blue connectors in the cabin light wiring. They were just trouble!!

Keep going!!  Good Luck!!  A few thoughts
