The cam cleats on the original traveler system went to crap. They stopped gripping anything. I replaced with some high-dollar Harkens, but they were just as disappointing, maybe worse than the originals. I did some shopping for some 316 stainless cam cleats, and Harken wanted over $125.00 a piece. I did some more shopping and found some on The Zon. I took a chance on them and WOW! Fantastic. They look great, and the build is sturdy...and at less than $28.00 a piece. Screw you Harken! I kept the Harken fairleads, but I'm sure the ones that came with the new ones would have been fine.
We'll see how the rest of the sailing/racing season goes, but I expect I will be perfectly happy.
So, if you are thinking about replacing your cam cleats, I recommend checking these out.

And yes... I stuck with and replaced the 3/8" line I had before. The Catalina recommendation for 5/16" line is nothing more than BS. I never use a line on my boat that I could also use to floss my teeth.
BTW... I gave the new Harken cam cleats to my competition and said, "I hope these work for you as well as they have worked for me." They said, "REALLY! Thanks!" I concluded by walking away, suggesting... "I'd have them installed before Wednesday night, if I were you."

Kirk : I too replaced my travelers' 5/16" line with 3/8" line.  Mainly because 3/8" line is the smallest I can easily grip!!
However, years later I change back to 5/16" line. As I recall the larger line did not work well thru my 4:1 traveler sheaves!!!

Thanks, Ron!
I'm not sure about your sheaves, maybe the earlier models where sized differently than later models like my '91, but 3/8" line has never been a problem on my boat. The lines have always run fine. It was only the old, darn Cam Cleats that were a nightmare. All better now.

Cheers...
