Difference Between the Westerbeke 35A and 35B

I am curious if anyone knows the difference between the M35A and M35B.  I was interested in the posts about the cam shaft problem on the 35B and wrote Westerbeke. I am many miles from my boat, hull #1345, a 1997 C 34, but a found an engine serial number on the original sales document indicating I have an A model.  yet I see from others they have the B model on boats made about the same time as mine.  Just wondering what's the difference, and why did Catalina put different engines on boats of the same vintage.  just curious...

Thanks for your answer.  I won't be able to actually check on the engine itself until I return to the boat in mid'June.  I will assume that the sales receipt is correct listing mine as the A model.  If indeed I have the A model, then I have 30h.p. rather than the 35hp of the later B model.  Interesting that this cam shaft issue as reported by many appears only in the later B model.  I always thought later models were to be an improvement on earlier models.

We own Tweety Bird #1346, and she came with a 35A.  Unfortunately (or, maybe, fortunately), after on 35 hours, the oil pump took a vacation and the low pressure alarm didn't work.  The result -- a damaged engine.

Under warrantee, it was replaced with a 35B.  With over 500 hours on it, we haven't had any problems.  It sounds a little quieter, and fuel comsumption seems a bit better.

Well, thats as close as they come to our hull number.  Had your oil pressure alarm not been working?  I assume that is what I hear when we start up and shut down.  Interesting that they replaced it with a 35B.  Do you notice the extra horse power?  what is your cruising RPM and fuel consumption?  Looks like you're getting more than your share of wind these days!  I grew up in Southern Cal but didn't get into boating intil my thirtys.  We started off lake cruising in Eastern Washington "home" waters, and a few trips to the San Juans on a 17 Lockley-Newport.  IN 86 bought a Pearson 26 in St Pete Florida and spent the next 7 summers cruising the Abacos.  When my youngest was 3  we bought a Newport 30  in Portland and sailed it up the coast and spent the next 7 summers cruising British Columbia up to the northern tip of Vancouver Island.  Got to missing the warm water and bought Voyager in Georgia Spring break 01 and brought it down to the Bahamas.  Now we keep her dry docked at Ft Pierce where she awaits our summer use, with a third Bahamas Cruise this summer.  Nice boat size wise for the Bahamas.  Wing keel makes it nice for cruising shallow waters.  If we ever get to Northern Ca I'll give you a shout.  Thanks for the invite.  Stu is down there too (Aquavite) He's been most helpful to me as I bought and outfitted Voyager.
