The past several years I have used the marina to winterize and haul my C34 #1138. This has always included the oil and filter change on my M35A engine. I retired this year and enjoy doing the work myself, plus I save quite a few dollars. I just came back from the boat and completed changing the engine oil and filter. The filter I used is a WIX 51064, recommended by a diesel engine repair center.  The problem I encountered was reading the manual that mentioned an upper full level and a lower mark on the engine oil dip stick. The lower mark is clearly visible then I have the part number and I can not see another horizontal level line. What am I missing?

Thank you Ron. Apparently I was down to the add oil mark and after pulling only a little over 3 quarts out I suspected either I left 1 quart in the pan, which I doubted or I was reading the dip stick incorrectly. I read it wrong. The transmission has only one mark. Thank you again.

Doug, the first year we had Jentine, I removed the drain plug and connected line and installed a pump with a new line and drain connection.  The oil is pumped from the bottom of the pan and is totally removed.  I get four quarts out and put four quarts back in (plus some for the filter).

Thanks, for input but my oil drain is on the high end of the oil pan and removing the oil from the dip stick gets me an extra 1/2 quart. My problem was old age, I forgot where the upper mark was on the dip stick. I have always checked the oil and it has always been above the lower mark, no problem. So I read the manual and it refered to an upper full mark and until Ron clarified it I was reluctant to just put in 4 1/2 quarts without checking the full mark on the dip stick. Much easier to see when oil is more used.
Thanks again for your comments.
