Original Hull Colors

I know I have seen a list of the original hull color selections from Catalina.  I am considering a boat that has a hull color of a very light grey.  Nice looking and appealing but I am wondering if it was a color Catalina originally offered or if the boat has been painted.

Kevin, the only other color offered based on this price sheet was camel.  http://c34.org/wiki/index.php?title=Image:1985pricelist.jpg  I don't recall seeing anything other than a dark blue, which was most likely owner painted.

Thank you Stu.  Thats the price list I remember seeing and you are right, I did not recall a grey hull color.  Now the question is... Should this be a show stopper if I'm considering buying this boat?  are there issues I don't know about if someone had a custom color hull from years ago?  I'm a little scared now since if there is ever a need to match color it could be a problem.

Ask yourself these questions:

1.  Do I like the rest of the boat?

2.  Is everything else shipshape?

3.  Do I like the color?

4.  Can I find out what kind of paint was used?  In many cases applied colors are limited, unlike going into Home Depot and finding eighty five thousand colors of white!!!

5.  If I know the type of paint (maybe a yard worker or a dockmate or friend can figure it out), is it still available?  If so, can it take "touch ups?"

6.  How good an I at docking?

7.  Can I afford twice as many fenders?

I don't think it's a show stopper if you go through the process.

LOL..    Well... lets see:

1.  Do I like the rest of the boat?  Overall, I think she's in pretty good shape with some nice upgrades...  my concern is I hope she has not been "tinkered" with too much.  She isn't perfect but few are. 

2.  Is everything else shipshape?  To the best of my knowledge.... although I was a bit taken by the amount of water in the bilge... (2 inches) 

3.  Do I like the color?    I'm retired Navy... every boat (ship) I have had has been Grey.  I do kinda like it.   

4.  Can I find out what kind of paint was used?  In many cases applied colors are limited, unlike going into Home Depot and finding eighty five thousand colors of white!!!    This is an interesting one.  I'll see if there is a type of standard color pallet the yards here use. 

5.  If I know the type of paint (maybe a yard worker or a dockmate or friend can figure it out), is it still available?  If so, can it take "touch ups?"    

6.  How good an I at docking?    Lets just say women children and dogs run away when they see me coming into port.... Just kidding but I am a newbie so I would expect a little "pinball" sometime

I'm really going to have to ponder the paint color over and talk it over with the Admiral... I would hate to get into a special color and not have an easy way to touch up not if.... but when I need to take care of a scuff or two.

I think Haze Gray with a white "34" on the bow would look great and give you a nice Navy feel....

Ha! I just learned something too...I thought my hull was painted...but nope...I have the Camel Hull and the 2-tone Camel/White deck, with the Marine Green Cove Stripe, according to the spec sheet.
