Hydro caps

I use to require frequent top offs of the batteries and I used to run my refrigeration at the dock constantly.  I've upgraded my electrical system AND quit running the refrigeration (warm beer's not that bad).  Anyhow, this past weekend I ran into a Hunter owner who had the same symptoms and replaced his battery caps with Hydro Caps.  They apparantly function like a catalytic converter.  He now keeps his refrigeration on full time and has not had to top off his batteries in nine months.    They cost approximately $10 each which may not be so expensive when comparing to high use of distilled water.  Through the web I found a supplier in Florida however, my Hunter friend was able to pick his up in Seattle. Has anyone on this list had experience with the caps?

Hi,  I'm not an expert but I don't think you should have to be topping your batteries all the time.  I also run my fridge constantly during the summer.  I always have my shore power connected and charging at the dock also.  I don't have to top the batteries but once a year.   Al

If you've upgraded to a "real" battery charger, as we discussed last year, you shouldn't have a problem with leaving you fridge on all the time, since the better newer battery chargers won't boil you distilled water off.  I do remember your need for a "cold one," and even after you've gotten used to warm beer, I can't fault you for wanting a cool one (unless you drink English beer all the time!).

I have had no expereince with or even heard of the Hydro Caps.

It seems to me that perhaps the Hunter owner had an old charger too, and this would then turn out to be a bandaid on a major wound for him.

Let us know how your research goes.
