replacing 915 roller furling

I called Pompanette to replace my 915 with a single line. I was told that they are no longer offering that option but would replace my entire system. with the 808 I need to know if anyone knows the pin to pin measurement for the forestay on a 1986 tall rig. They also want the clevis pin diameter. As I will not be at the boat for a while, can anyone give me the necessary information?  Thanks

I happen to have my old forestay turnbuckle at my desk at work from my 1991 C34. The pin is 5/8". The manual lists the forestay length at 46'-7" for a tall rig on page 21. I'd confirm with a phone call to Catalina to be sure for your '86.

Are they giving you any kind of a break on the price, since you were trying to upgrade the "LD"?

If you replace your system I need a couple of 'luff bearings", #4 in the attached picture.  Please PM me if they are available.

I also am curious about the cost.  I was planning on changing my continous line to a single this winter.  Did the standing rigging last year, not sure I want to mess with replacing the whole furling rig.

They are giving a great deal. It is more than the replacement part, but it is a whole new system.

Did you try calling 1-813-885-2182? They are still offering the replacements parts as of 3 weeks ago.

Merv : I replaced mine with the Hood 808 system last year.
I have a standard rig and calculated that I had a luff length of 46' 6 5/16" for the 7 sections which includes the height of the shorter "standard" drum and the toggle.  It worked out perfectly!!
With a tall rig you'll need to add 2 feet. 

Think you are making a good choice as it's a great system.  You'll also be able to change out the head stay at the same time.  It's also a fairly easy system to install.  Good Luck

Ordered the system today. The cost was $875. I could not find a brand new system for that price. Will be shipped tomorrow. I will replace the forstay when I install. They send you enough foil length for 54 feet. Ron, what type and size line did you use? How much will I need?

Here's what we used for our ProFurl: 5/16 Sta Set $0.79 to $0.59 per foot, 61 feet

Merv : I used 72 ft. of 3/8 in. polyester (Dacron) line.  The 72 feet gave me 5 wraps on the drum with a 150% sail fully deployed with 3 ft. extra in the cockpit.
You can get by with a smaller diameter line for strength, but 3/8 in. is easier to grip!!

Ron, thanks for the info. Did you have to decore the line. I found a place that will do sta-set for 18 cents a foot if I don't mind the brown color.

Merv : You don't need to decore 3/8" line.  Hood only decored 7/16" line!  I wouldn't waste the money on sta-set (it's made for haylards).
1. because it's too stiff and won't wind well in a drum
2. because of the cost 
3. plain old polyester is good enough (who cares if it stretches a little?!!)

Again, 3/8" Dacron is strong and you can grasp it easier than 5/16".
