Cracking Deck

I have a deck crack that runs in a half circle in front of the forward portion of the metal deck plate at the rear of the cockpit (that just calls out for a picture).  Opening the deck plate shows the top of the rudder post, which allows access for the emergency tiller.  The post looks centered in the hole, but the "lip" is wider on the forward section and it appears that this is why it's cracking (too large an unsupported area at a spot where everyone stands while at the helm).  My thought is that I need to glass in some type of support on the forward edge, but I wondered if anyone else had seen this problem?

Cheers,

Rick

I'm guessing that I'm the only one with this problem.  I contacted Catalina and although they said that this is not a known issue, they seem interested in what is actually wrong.  That makes me feel a little better.  Just so it's clear, I added a picture of my issue.
