Brad

Does anyone have any idea where I might find used sails for my 34 ?

There doesn't seem to be much on the "for sale" tab on this website (mostly boats)

Any suggestions ?   I'm looking for a 155 and a spinnaker.

thanks

Brad -

Look in the "Marketplace" link at the top of the Message Board page. That is where parts, equipment, and other stuff is listed. Here is the link:

There are no 155/Spins listed there now, but there may be in the future due to your request - it is refitting time for a lot of folks. There are a lot of used sail dealers listed in sailing magazines and you might try a Google search for "Used Sails".

Good Luck,

Brad,

I've bought and sold several sails via used sail "brokers"...

I recommend being very careful when buying sails from these guys...Many greatly over-rate the sail condition, and some do not offer a return policy...If they do offer a return policy, you are still stuck with the shipping charges ($50-$60+ each way)...

Therefore, I'd only go with a company that you know provided good service to someone you know personally (another yacht club member?)...

Many of these guys will also offer to re-cut a bigger sail to fit your boat...I highly recommend NOT letting them do it...Once they cut the sail, it's yours...No return.

I always get the sail, then have my local sailmaker and assess the condition before I raise it on the  boat...If the sailmaker says it's junk, I return it and get my money back...If the sail is good, and needs to be re-cut, I have my local guy do it...And never, never, never go sailing with the sail unless you have decided to buy it; sailing with the sail also voids the return policy...

I know several people (including myself) that will only deal with Bacon Assoc (http://baconsails.com/)in Annapolis because of their "accurate" sail ratings; always being on the conservative side...If they say it is good, it is a good sail...

I've also used Atlantic Sail Trades in Florida, but not sure I would recommend them...I bought a good mainsail from them a few years ago, but got burned by them on a genoa...They said the genoa was "excellent", and it required slight alterations to fit my boat (new luff tape)...I had them do the alterations (at a good price), but the sail was far from excellent when it arrived...Since they altered the sail for me, I could not return it; actually they may have offered to take it back minus all shipping and alteration charges, but that totaled several hundreds $$$ loss...I kept the junk sail, but won't make that mistake anymore...

Also when dealing with these people, you need to know exact sail measurements (and their correct names, I, P, J, etc) for the sail you are looking for...Bacons use to have really good boat  measurement instructions (and definitions of the dimension letters, I, P, J, etc) on their website...

The only negative thing I've heard about Bacon's is they are currently on Mayland's "Deliquent Tax" list...Not sure if they actually have $$$ problems or not, or if it is the norm...

I do not have any financial/or other interest in Bacon Assoc., or any other sail companies...Just trying to pass along learned info...

I have a used Main for my standard rig C34 and I listed it on the Marketplace . You'll find the Marketplace on the upper right of the Message Board. I have reduced the price from $550 to $450. This sail has seen many winning races in the last few years. It's been used but has been well taken care of and still has some wins left. It has been built strong enough for the San Francisco winds.
