The weep holes in the pump housing are put there to indicate a failure of the seals. It is important to check them at least annually to ensure they are open and not plugged up. There have been instances where water has been pumped into the engine due to seal failure. This is more prevelant with the Sherwood pump, but could also happen with the Oberdorfer. It is prudent to check the pump for leakage every time you check the oil.
