I think by paying towing insurance to towboat US you have all ready agreed on a contract.  They should have no salvage rights.  The first question asked is do you have towing insurance, if the answer is no, a rough price is estimated on the phone/radio before the tow boat launches.

Guys, Susan & D. Gill : Ken brings up a couple of interesting points.
1. If you have towing insurance and it isn't UNLIMITED - it's worthless.  I made the same post a couple of years ago that towing is ssoo expensive that anything less than unlimited - you'll also be paying "thru the nose" !!
2  The Tow Boat US tower can also be a salvor !!  If he can prove that he was also in peril while assisting your inperil boat, he can claim salvage rights !

The bottom line is to make sure that your towing and boat insurance company will act in YOUR behalf.
