Used boat this weekend for first time this season and aside from problem with faulty engine temp sensor or gauge (described separately) I found the refrigerator does not get cold.  The compressor seems to be running constantly but does not have any effect on temp regardless of the setting of thermostat.  I'm inclined to think that I have a leak with the coolant (freon?).  Thoughts???

Hi David,

The short answer is yes, you probably are very low on gas. However, you could have no condenser fan running. Make sure the "cooling" fan runs when the compressor is running.

The long answer is to read all the good references Stu offered up. Stu and I alone have probably generated a small hard copy book on "reefer madness" . ( Sorry, I couldn't help myself...... )

Does anyone know the amount of freon that's supposed to be in the AB unit?  I was told by the company that now owns AB that there are freon quantities located on the compressor and the cold plate.  I've looked at the units and can't find anything.  Also read the links and didn't see anything there.  My compressor runs, fan runs but it doesn't get cold.  Think it might be low on gas, but have no idea how much to put in.  It takes the R134 type.

8-14 psi when running.
