Ron-  Just catching up on reading....Welcome to the fleet!  We've been across the bay in Atlantic Highlands, NJ for 13 years.

John-

If you find or think of any ideas on this let me know, I'm itching for a sewing project to work my machine and winter blues out on.   The bag alone doesn't cut it....I'd like to combine the bag and the storage solution into one idea.   I'm good at making patterns if I have a concept to work with.   I also have a mk1

Cliff-

I replaced my pulpit cushions that were glued to the plastic with bottomsiders.   I removed the old ones by tearing them off and took any remaining glue off the plastic by cleaning with acetone.    After considerable work and some light sanding, the plastic was completely clean and presentable.

When we go cruising we use the oven all the time.     We try to plan dinners that bake and will often bring pre-made frozen lasagna or chicken parmigiana, whole chicken, roasts etc since they don't require much tending and hit the spot when you are sailing long distances.    We also bake muffins and breads.
We also store stuff in it when not in use without fear of the door opening.   If it opens it's time to reef.....

Fellow Captains-

Thanks for the insight, information and sensitivity to my budget.   After discussing the relative merits of saving dollars through a repair versus the risk and smell of continuing to use the old tank, our noses won out.     The plastic on the old tank has definitely picked up a smell that was not removed by cleaning with a cleaner and closer inspection also revealed that the vent fitting had a split too.     Apparently these might have been overtightened or stresses from flexing finally took their toll.

With the tank and all the hoses replaced, I'm looking forward to a sweet smelling cabin.  While the tank is out I will probably install a tank monitor that has been on my list of potential upgrades.

Main Message Board / Holding Tank Repair
January 03, 2007, 05:28:16 PM
Removed my holding tank after noticing slight discharge in bilge area.    Wanted to see if it had experienced a crack on the support beam.     The good news is the tank is fine, however one of the female threaded fittings on the tank has a split in it and needs to be replaced.    It appears to be welded on so I ground off the original and now can replace with a specially fabricated female fitting.

Has anyone replaced this?  and if so should it be epoxied to the tank?   I have an 89.

Thanks, Skip

Have the diver check the zincs too....May be a zinc that has partiallly been thrown off.   Had similar experience a few years back, including the bang.   It finally went away.     When I pulled boat at end of the year I was minus a zinc.

In my 1989, I finally found the originally installed charger in the engine thru-hull access locker in the head, tucked underneath the switch for the drain pump.   Not a good place for electrical access.

Mike-

I drilled out the hole for the plug on my Mark I on the front of the rear cockpit seat very close to the instrument panel on port side and placed the bracket to hang the mike right next to the panel.

Ted-

I noticed a similar thing when I tried to place my boat in my slip.    Seems I keep coming up slightly off out in the Atlantic Highlands Marina channel...

Bruce-

Sorry for delayed response...haven't been reading for over a month.

See http://c34.org/bbs/index.php?topic=1181.msg6018#msg6018   -   describes the arrangement I did to a 6:1 traveler to bring lines alongside companionway hatch on trim using two schaefer hinged fairlead blocks  #300-32, reversing lines through traveler to exit out the front and running lines at 45 degree angle down to trim inside dorade vents.   :D      This arrangement removed all slots/holes through dodger except the opening for the halyards, sheets, vang, outhaul etc just over the companionway trim.    When I re-did my dodger it allowed me to increase the window area without any slots.    I used cleats at the end of the trim closest to the washboards.

I have a pic from the top in front of the old dodger that I can post once I can figure out why I don't get it under additional options.
