Main Message Board / Re: Stove / Oven

Hi-
I have an almost identical c34, and the range on mine is a Hillerange 2122.  When I needed the same part, the service person looked it up and couldn't find the number.  But it is the correct number and it was taken from the placard on the stove.  There is apparently a similar number in the catalog, but stick with what's on the stove.

Main Message Board / Re: forward hatch

Many thanks for all the comments and suggestions regarding the replacement lens for my forward hatch.  It sounds like there was a changeover from Bowmar to Lewmar sometime during the production run of the 88 model.  At any rate, mine is the Bowmar (Nibo)  model, and with the help of some of the information many of you provided, I can get the correct replacement.  I will use the installation info concerning sealant, installation details, etc which should be the same for either brand.  Unfortunately, there is no available  shop to help with fabrication, so I'll get the lens here and cart it down to Honduras.  I'll already past the airline baggage weight limit for the first two bags, so what's a few more pounds of plastic and sealant!  Thanks Again!!!

Main Message Board / forward hatch

I need a replacement lens for the forward trapezoidal hatch on Bruja, an 88 model c-34.
I brought the measurements for the outside of the hatch with me when I left the boat in Honduras a few weeks ago.  The people at Bomar, however say that they need more information from me, and they don't index the replacement lens with the external measurements I have.   Additional info that they need are the thickness, and whether the hatch is high profile or low profile.  I have read all the threads on hatch replacements, but nothing tells me that information.  Does anyone have a Bomar part number or other definitive way of identifying what I have to order?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!
And many thanks to all those who make this website so great-

Main Message Board / raw water strainer
February 02, 2008, 04:35:14 PM
I have an 87 C34.  There is a raw water filter/strainer immediately after the raw water through-hull for the engine. It looks like many of the models of the Jabsco type, but there are no markings to give me a manufacturer or model.  There was a stainless screen, a cylinder about 1 3/8" by 3", but it has completely disintegrated.  I'd like to replace the screen, but can't track down a similar part on the Jabsco website, and I can't find the specific information on make and model using any of the C34 threads.  Has anyone been down this road before?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

My solution is less complex;  I have an 8 gallon solar bag which I have more or less permanently tied flat on the coachroof under the boom.  From there I have a 7 foot hose that I can bring back to the cockpit.  Sitting on the cockpit floor withthe hose and its valve in hand, I can take a nice shower, heated, and let the water run out the cockpit drain.  We use fresh water, but you could substitute raw water if you wish. No pump, no draining of the bilge, and even a little privacy since we take our showers seated.  Has worked for us for 7 years form Mexico to Panama.

I replaced mine, kind of a nuisance, but not too bad.  I didn't like the glossy black finish, so I got some matt black panels from a local plastic supplier. I didn't like having the original panels so long, so I used 4 panels on each side of the cabin, instead of two.  I left a little overlap, so that when all the panels are closed, it is not possible to see behind.  Then I cut out the middle of each one, leaving a 3 inch frame of plastic, and leaving rounded corners in the cutout.  Then I glued (glue gun worked fine) prewoven panels of cane on the back, covering the  holes from the backside.  A little stain on the cane before I glued them gave the cane a softer tone instead of the almost white that is the color of the cane as it came from the fabric store.  I was particularly interested in getting more ventilation into the compartments behind the panels, so that's why I went to the cane. Don't forget that the original panels are longer on one side of the  cabin than the other.

Main Message Board / tachometer
May 22, 2007, 07:44:06 PM
Even after looking at the teleflex website, I can't figure out which tachometer I need to replace the one in my c34, l988 model.  And I can't get to the old one until November as the boat is in Panama.  Does anyone know exactly which model is the proper replacement?  Many thanks!

HI Steve and Nancy,
I notice that you're in Costa Rica.  I'm headed there in 8 days to join my boat which is on the hard at the Costa Rica Yacht Club in Puntarenas.  Will you be in the area and would you like to share info with us?  If so, please e-mail me at brant@suwa.org.  Thanks,
Brant
