Steve,

Removing the propane tank and enclosure will be easy as I built the tank enclosure and installed it myself a couple of years ago. The PO ordered Allegro with an alcohol system and we wanted propane. I should have remembered the water tank from my many trips into the locker. My leak may have been caused by my own big feet.

Rick,

Thanks for the info. Also, new steering cables and a look at quadrant is a great idea.

I have a leak in the aft water tank on Allegro #415, and I have not figured out how to access or view the tank or fittings.

Crusingconcepts.com was my souce for replacing all fixed cabin windows. It took me two weekends. Perfect fit and the owner stands behind his product. He has templates and computer files for most models. Most difficult part was removing old ones. The Admiral is elated!

I am in the process of replacing the fixed windows in Allegro, 1987 #415. I can find a source on line, but need it tomorrow. I've tried all of the hardware stores here in Connecticut as well as Defender, West Marine and Kellogg Marine.

Stu,
Captain Al did buy a Morgan 43 and they are very active in LISCA, saw them last weekend at a West Marine discount sale for LISCA members.

Heck, Jon, if you're sailing in December, things are good!

Last I heard Captain Al and Michelle bought a Catalina / Morgan 43 and were still active in LISCA, he was commodore for a while.  Reminds me I have to get in touch with him.

Isn't fast (and regular, consistent) starting a dream?!?

Mike and Joanne,

Several years ago I replaced the oil pan on Allegro, my 1987 Catalina 34 , Hull 415.  As I remember, there are 18 allen head screws to remove. First, my friends and I disconnected fuel lines, electrical and water connections and engine mounts. We then used a chain hoist stapped to an iron post across the companionway to lift the engine about 4 inches to gain interference free access. Replaced the pan and reversed the steps without a problem. NOTE!! Please do not use a "come-along"! We tried that and a crimped connection promptly pulled apart and the wire rope almost took our heads off.

Good Luck,

Allegro is a 1987 C-34 (#415) and we are running the original (1987)Adler-Barber unit.  House battery bank consists of 2ea 27 series 12v batteries. Unit has been recharged only once (4 years ago) and maintains frozen foods well.  We back off the thermostat when anchored or on a mooring, typically run the engine twice per day for about 45 minutes. Good luck on your installation.

:clap Just replaced the original mainsail on Allegro #415 and the improvement is fantastic! Kappa Sails in Westbrook, CT built the sail and has a fine reputation as a sail maker for blue water sailor's in CT and RI.

While visiting the Portland, ME Boat Builder's Show, I visited the Portland Hamilton Marine Discount store and found covers to replace my 1987 vintage 5.0 circular Data Marine instrument covers. If anyone needs the older instruments, the Hamilton part number is DAT-FAB-1305L 302B 20H.
