Main Message Board / Re: disposing of a cng tank

not sure, but I would guess it has expired. It was on the boat when I got it 15 years ago. Didn't use it much and it is empty.

I like the idea of removing the handrails to refinish. I am think of putting the boat to bed for the winter and doing the handrail in my shed at home.. I need a good idea to seal the holes between taking the handrails off and getting back a month or two later to rebed them.

Has anyone used their iPad as their gps? It would give me a larger screen and possibly more detail. Looking for pros and cons.

Main Message Board / Re: oil pressure
July 29, 2010, 08:35:45 AM
The alarm did not sound. Using a multi weight oil from West Marine. Not at the boat so I am not exactly sure of the weight. The oil pressure dropped from 50 to about 30

I changed the  oil in my M25XPB as usual. I was out sailing, then motoring as the wind died. The oil pressure was fine until I pulled into the marina and dropped the engine speed to idol and my oil pressure dropped. Is this normal and I never noticed it or should I be looking for something. I check the oil when I got in and it was full and I could not find any leaking oil.

I have a 1986 Mark I and the pump on the head needs to be rebuilt. The documentation say the head is an hk but it does not resemble any of the pictures of that model. It looks more like an hc or he from the pictures I can find. Does any one have any idea on the model or how I can tell?

Cliff,
I had a boat on the Delaware, south of Philly. It was convenient and easy to get to, but I got tired of fighting the current, tides and the combination. As well as dodging large commercial vessels on the river. The scenery after a while was not great and there are not many place to visit on the river. I moved the boat to Northeast on the upper end of the bay. It was an hour drive from my house just north of Philadelphia in Plymouth Meeting. I then moved the boat to the inner harbor. It was a trade off for my wife. She like the night life of the city, but it does add major time to get to the bay to go anywhere. If I just want to sail for the day, it is a great place. It takes 1 3/4 hours to get to the boat. I think you really need to decide what type of sailing you want to do and that will send you in the right direction.

Does anyone know the type of material the gaskets on a heat exchanger are made of? The ones on my exchanger are 1/8 inch thick and the ones I can buy are only 1/16. I was told to go to a autoparts store to find a sheet of exhaust gasket material and the person behind the desk asked what material. I was also told that I can use 1/8 inch neoprene.  Can I ?

Main Message Board / topping lift
May 14, 2008, 02:18:49 PM
I have a 1986 34 and the cheek block on the topping lift broke. Does any know the size of the block. Mine has no identification marking. The local West Marine does not carry anything close to the size I need and has sent me to their catalogue. The specs and the parts list on line did not have the info.

Thanks

Steve

My heat exchanger was leaking and I ordered new gaskets from Torrensen. Although the part number matched the gaskets were half the thickness of the original. I had to use two together to get it to seal. The new gaskets did not look like the old. Has anyone had this problem

Main Message Board / companionway leak
March 07, 2008, 08:47:27 AM
I have a leak on the lower corner of the companion way on to the cover of the engine. I noticed the wood is rotting and have replaced the side piece. The shelf is also rotting. Has anyone replaced the shelf that goes back into the aft cabin over the engine? I look on th FAQ and found some ideas to stop the water but not how to replace the shelf.

Ron, thanks for the info. Did you have to decore the line. I found a place that will do sta-set for 18 cents a foot if I don't mind the brown color.

Ordered the system today. The cost was $875. I could not find a brand new system for that price. Will be shipped tomorrow. I will replace the forstay when I install. They send you enough foil length for 54 feet. Ron, what type and size line did you use? How much will I need?
