before you drill more, pour some water and see if it drains.  I think you might be hitting the floor of the engine compartment which is part of the liner not the hull.

Oh, it's definitely not draining... I had to bail it out to take the picture!

was that before or after you opened up the hole?

Can't open hole.  It's clear for about 1.5 inches then fully obstructed.  I can't determine if it was never drilled all the way through or if it's just a solid clock.  I'm hesitant to put a drill bit in there until I know what I'm dealing with.  Emails exchanged with Catalina but no final answer yet.
