has anyone fabricated a wine or rum bottle storage or display shelf, I see in the archives where people put their bottles, but has anyone built anything that can have easy access, can be seen, (for inventory of course) and can be secure while sailing

Bob, at the risk of "disclosing" my "inventory" I put the "hard stuff" laying on its side behind the black slider to starboard of the galley.  I'm hesitant to say that there are enough bottles therein to preclude them rolling around.  Wine (r&w), single malt, port, rum & vodka, sometimes gin if there are some visiting skippers from the U.K. (and we've been pleased to meet a few   :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:).

Beer, ale, Guinness, soda, water, and bubbly water hang out in the fridge.  Overflow in the aft cabin, near to hand!   :clap

We have a secure plumbing system, having redone all the hoses and a new water heater last year or so, but still maintain 4 jugs of water above the engine under the upper stairs.

Some a$$hole's gonna want a Scotch & Soda, so I play The Kingston Trio & Bob Shane, but they still want a real drink!!!  Yikes!!!  Ice in Scotch is a sacrilege.  :cry4`

The Late Bill Eddy (Casino, #214) used to host memorable parties on board his boat.  He had an entire assortment laid out on his galley, in a row, with access to his fridge for ice.  We still sorely miss him.  :cry4`

I never did figure out where he kept all that stuff when he was sailing!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Your boat, your choice.   :D :D :D

Sacrilege be dammed, but I agree with Stu's assessement about ice in single malt. I keep a few bottles of The Glenlivet (for me) a bottle of Cabernet and a couple of Chardonnay (for guests), plus 6 bottles of the green Dos XX (for my son-in-law) -- all in the fridge. This is a sailboat, not a bar!  :D Anything else we stash "wherever" there is space!

Bob,
As a prototype I cut some hard packing foam from some electronics and able to put 4 bottles rum gin etc in forward port cabinet.  That was 6 seasons ago still works great and no breakage.  Wine bottles go in neoprene bottle carriers in the shallow bilge in the v-berth.
Cheers,
Jim

Guys : I always stored bottles (MK 1) in that bottom opening door in the Vberth port side.

The bottom row were against the hull and at "water" temperature!!

thank you for your responses, I guess I am looking for a secure storage in plain sight.  maybe a board with bottle size holes in it attached to a bulk head, I used to keep bottles on the engine cover under the steps, but I check my engine every time I go out and it got to be a pain to move everything.  Now I lay them down in the v berth when sailing.  not a big thing, just seeing what the other guy does. I was thinking maybe in the aft berth along the wall, make something there.  I am a beer guy, all goes in the fridge,  I do have guests aboard frequently and would like to point to the bar area so they can name their poison of what I have on hand.  obviously my boat is running real well for me to get to these fun to do projects instead of must do pia items :D 8)

I have a interesting T-shirt with the inscription in the back that says:

"A drinker with a sailing problem"

I think this might fit our situation.     :party
