Raw water strainer mounting

My RW strainer is not bulkhead mounted, it was just loose in line if you will. I seem to have the same strainer as most others and it has two holes at the top. I am wondering how many people just have it loose in line or if there are any pictures out there of the unit bulkhead mounted? I looked to no avail.

Paul, ours is screwed onto the thru hull.  Not bulkhead mounted, but not loosey-goosey either.  Standard Sherwood plastic one.

Paul : A previous owner changed the factory raw water filter.  
The original was connected to the thru hull and was a side screw-on filter/bowl.

It wasn't originally a Sherwood. Look at my Mainsheet write-up on raw water filters (WiKi) and you'll see the brand.

I looked at it again last night and it looks like mounting it direct to the thru hull will be fine.
I don't like all that plastic of thru hull and beyond - Change out to bronze someday . . .
