Hi everyone.  This is my first post to the forum.  I'm sure there will be many more.  I just bought my first sailboat, a 1987 C-34 Tall Rig - hull #0396.  Re-named - "Irish Diplomacy".   I've been reading your site for many years in anticipation of getting a boat.  What an AMAZING RESOURCE!!!  Since I'll need to do most of the maintenance/repairs/upgrades..... myself, this site was a major consideration in selecting a C-34.  I purchased the boat last fall, just in time to move it to Rochester, NY, and cover it for the winter.  Now it's time to get going with a long list of projects.  I would like to get a couple of years out of the existing Garmin 172C, but it has the older style map card with the Cape Cod through New Jersey area maps.  Garmin no longer supports/sells these pre-loaded cards.  I will be sailing on lake Ontario, out of the Pultneyville Yacht Club, and am looking for a card that will cover that area.  I believe the "Bluechart" pre-loaded card for the US covers all of the lakes.  Any ideas on where I might be able to find one of these older cards?  Considering all of the first year and purchase expenses, I was hoping to eek out a little more time with this unit if possible.  It worked fine during the sea trial.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi Mike, Welcome!
Don't forget about your "local" resources.  Walking the docks and posting a note in the clubhouse is also a good way to find things.  Copyright issues may prevent someone making a copy for you, but maybe you can find someone that no longer has a use for the card you need.

Thanks Ken.  I'll certainly look at local resources as well.

Try googling for it.  When we bought our boat it had a 172C with no card.  I ended up finding a card via Amazon for $50 that had my local maps on it.  Otherwise you can try and find the blank card and load the maps on it yourself, but if it starts adding up to $$$ you should check the cost against a newer unit.

Mike : Welcome aboard.  As others mentioned the internet might have one -- maybe E-Bay?
