A chain hook and a 1/2 inch (or perhaps 5/8") line, and a rubber snubber sized at your choice would work just fine.  While we don't have all chain rode or windlass, when the chain is up on the deck and the rode is vertical, think about it: We ALL have the SAME situation.

To break the anchor out I just rap the chain around the cleat in the locker (the cleat is very large). Works very well, no slippage and anchor comes free.
