I am contemplating replacing my shore power inlet on my 1987 Catalina. #459. Has anyone done this? I'm trying to decide if I need a marine electrician to this job.  Any suggestions?

Bill - It's really not any more difficult than 120V wiring in your home. 1. Get the appropriate Marinco outlet. 2. Since it's 30A service, replace the 12/3 wiring with 10/3 marine grade wiring from the outlet to your panel. 3. You might consider adding a galvanic isolator or go all the way and install an isolation transformer.

Search the main forum for galvanic isolator to learn about potential benefits. Also see: http://www.boatelectric.com/Galvanic%20Isolator.htm
