Last day of re-crossing Biscay, en-route to Brest. The rest of the crew had turned in, leaving me on watch, enjoying the sunset.

Had a fantastic solo day sail about a week ago now.  We had a nice break in the gloomy PNW weather and the forecast was for 9 to 13kts most of the day starting at about 1130am till about 5pm when it was predicted to all but shut off.

I set full main and probably about 100 to 110% headsail.  Aparant wind was anywhere from 10 to 15kts and I was able to maintain 41° off the aparant wind which was pretty good from my experience.  I saw anywhere from 5.5kts up to 7.2kts speed through the water at one point briefly with a max heel angle of 18 degrees but mostly in the 15 degree range.

I got a LONG ways up wind and noticed it starting to drop off, so I fell off and headed towards home only to have the wind drop to nearly zero.  Oh well, I was hungry so I went below and started making a tuna melt, while the boat managed itself at about .7kts through the water.

Half way into making my sandwich the wind came back up to a respectable 10kts!  I went back up to the helm and reset the sails and wind angle on the auto pilot and returned to my sandwich.  After meal prep was done I popped up the cockpit table and enjoyed the ride and the wonderful scenery.

The sun was low in the sky but I made it nearly all but the last mile to the marina under sail, motoring into the slip in the dark.  It was truly a fantastic day!!  Who else has been out recently?
