This summer our belt was looking very worn and when we went to replace it it was nearly too tight a fit.  I had measured and had a spare that was the same size, but try as we could we couldn't get it on.  We resorted to taking off the bolt to get the alternator loose and slipped the belt on.  But when we re enstalled the boat, we could only get three of the four spacers on.  Seemed to run OK and no noticable wear in 12 hours of running.  When I return to the boat should I fight with it and try to get that fourth spacer on?  I'll also be getting a few more belts just in case, but I think I'll get them on the long side and put tension on the belt by slightly changing the angle on the "rocker arm"(sorry, I don't know the correct terminology).  also, am so happy I had all the fittings purchased to connect my new obendorfer water pump, as the sherwood started leaking.  I think I'll get another spare obendorfer.  I sure like the ease of checking the empellor.

If it runs OK, leave it alone.  If it becomes a problem, worry about it then.
