Main Message Board / Head Holding tank pumpout

Can anyone suggest a method to pump out the holding tank on my C34 mkII at our private dock - perhaps a suitable manual suction pump and waste bucket?

Robert,
I pulled my hatch this weekend and found that there was a minor leak with the water collecting in the trim similar to the situation on your boat.  There was not much water damage to the core, however - only a small area located around one of the longer screws of the hatch hinge.  I cleaned it out and filled with a small amount of thickened epoxy from WEST Systems.  It appears the deck on my Mk11 2005 is cored with balsa.  I really appreciate your post - if I had let it go, I think there would have been much more substantial damage to the core.
Thank you!
Harry

Robert,
Thanks for the update - I'm still interested to learn how extensive your damage is, and how you decide to fix it.

Robert,
Thanks for the information on how to remove the interior hatch trim.  Sorry to hear about the water problem with your deck core.  I'd be very interested to hear how you decide to fix it.

I'd like to check to see if my boat has a similar problem.   Please explain how I remove the inside plastic hatch liner
thanks

Thanks everyone for your responses.  I've subsequently found that the Booth wrench with 5/32 inch security tip (5/32" allen wrench with hollow center) works perfectly on the NavPod screws.  I purchased my wrench from from Grainger Industrial Supply for $7 , which is 3x cheaper than the NavPod tool.

Can a Booth wrench with 5/32" security tip be used on NavPod security screws in lieu of the expensive NavPod tool?

Ron and Ken,
Thanks for your responses.  I think you're right - I must have had a faulty filter.  I also appreciate your suggestion to go with the Fleetwood filter, which I will do.

I believe that the pinhole leak on my secondary fuel filter casing could have been due to a small amount of water in the fuel mixing with the sulfur in the fuel to form sulfuric acid, which corroded through the casing - does this sound like a plausible cause to anyone else?  The filter was on the engine for almost 2 years.  I will now change the secondary filter every year when I change my primary filter.

Main Message Board / secondary fuel filter pin-hole leak

My NAPA 3390 10 micron secondary fuel filter developed a small pin-hole leak on the bottom of the spin-on cartridge after about 1 year on the engine (Universal M35).  It looks like it may have rusted through....My primary filter is a Racor 215R10 filter with R152 cartridge, which is supposed to separate out 100% of water contamination.  Has this ever happened to anyone else?

I'm planning on using an echo charger, so I think I need to stay with a flooded start battery to be compatible with the T-105s...

Has anyone used an automotive Group 41 battery (650 CCA) as a starter/reserve battery?  I have a M-35B Universal diesel that specifies 400-600 CCA for starting (per engine manual).   I have four Trojan T105s configured as my house bank, which I also use for routine starting, so the Group 41 will be used only for emergency starting as necessary.  Any potential problems if I use this battery?  I don't have the space for a Group 24 or 27.

Kyle and Dave,
Thanks for the great suggestions on a starter battery!
