Desolation Sound Trip 2005

We'll watch for Voyager in the San Juans Saturday and Sunday on the way up and we'll watch for Mariah III up in Desolation Sound.  31.3 working hours remaining until vacation.

Made it back safely with no major incidents.  Met up with Jack and Ruth on "Mariah III" twice.  Once in Tenedos Bay and a second time in Roscoe Bay.  Shared a few stories and we are looking forward to bumping into them again in local waters.

Had some great sailing days.  Hit Victoria B.C. on the way back down.  We left Victoria at 1200 hrs. with a big flood tide and arrived in Roche Harbor at 1500 hrs.  We were doing 11 kts. over the ground at times and 10 kts. pretty consistently.  

At Roche Harbor, we got in a line of boats and drifted around for an hour and a half before we even tied up to the Custom's dock.  Custom's Officers were boarding quite a few boats but we answered a few questions and were on our way.

11 months and one week until our next trip up.

We sailed back into Anacortes on Wednesday the 27th after a fun 3 weeks "on the road".  Enjoyed meeting Ray and Sandy on Diamond Girl and likewise look forward to getting together in local waters.

Our best sailing was on the way north.  Sailed all the way from Nanimo to Powel River, a distance of 50 KM in just under 8 hours with the SE wind giving us a very broad and sometimes downwind sail.  We just hummed along.

The toughest part of the trip was keeping the batteries charged up with the short distance between anchorages in Desolation Sound.  Turning the refer off at nite helped and I did resort to running the Honda 1000 a couple of hours.  Per GPS we logged 450 KM in the 3 weeks.

Was a very enjoyable trip and look forward to next time.
