Electric pump on ice box drain

Have people put 12v pumps on the ice box drain? Will a diaphram pump like one on pressure water system work or does it need to be a sump pump?

I had a foot pump originally. I've removed it. I now have a pvc ball valve and hose draining the small amount of water into the bilge when I open the valve.

Paul : I surely wouldn't use a diaphragm pump as it makes tooo much noise!! 

Don't know of anyone that has put an electric pump in the fridge line.  You must have a hell-of-a-lot of melted ice in your fridge to need an electric pump!!

On our C34 MkII the ice box and the shower drain went to the same pump. There was a selector switch in the line that allowed you to switch it over to the ice box whenever you wanted to.

when I get back to the slip from a few days out I simply drop my shop vac suction hose to the bottom of my fridge (my indispensable small 35 dollar shop vac from Ace Hardware that sucks and blows,) while cleaning the boat.  I've never used the foot pump, don't even know if it works, think I'll remove it and use the space for cleaning supply shelf or something, or I'll put the valve in like Jon W did in case my small shop vac isn't available when I defrost. I also use that small shop vac to suck out the bilge when cleaning it, anyway that's the way I do it,
