Moving along with the running rigging upgrades.
Now have 8 lines lead back to the cockpit and can put in / take out 2 reefs

Next is the traveller upgrade. Read a ton of posts on the subject, so I'm going to call Garhauer on Monday.

Best pic I found showing the result is this one. (IMHO)

That 3 sheave block on the traveller looks nothing like our setup, I presume that is not part of the traveller upgrade kit??

correct.  The boat pictured has had the mainsheet tackle upgraded.  Also looks like a Garhauer product.  When you talk to Mark or Guido they are very helpful, can modifiy just about anything to suit your needs.  I wanted the cam cleats mounted on the cabin top rather than the traveler.  They came packed seperately in a zip lock bag.

I'm not sure about the spring show, but they Garhauer always has a booth at the Annapolis Boat Show in the fall.  Some great deals, got my davits for about half price.

Ken's right.  I did, too, so Guido put rollers on the aft end of the track cars instead of the cam cleats.  I run the control lines aft through a single grommet in my dodger windows to bullet fairleads on the cabintop and the cam cleats at the aft end of the cabintop.  I kept my old track, sent them the cold end cars and the mainsheet car and they put the new sheaves on them.  Didn't take too long either.  Great folks to work with.  While there may be a "traveler upgrade KIT" these days (I did mine in 2000, two years after we bought our boat), and my records show it was the Garhauer M-2, but we did discuss it by phone.  I have no idea what the "KIT" may include, but haven't looked at their catalog online.

and a photo of ours in this topic:  http://c34.org/bbs/index.php/topic,2781.0.html  I don't recommend some of the convoluted arrangements suggested therein, however.

Good luck, it's a great improvement.

PS - only one L in traveler - makes it easier to search... 8)

I actually got to meet Mark at the Strictly Sail Pacific boat show in S.F last year. Very nice man. He helped me with quite a few projects on my boat. That show is starting in a few days and he'll probably be there this year too.

Same with me, Guido helped me out as I wanted to run the lines back to the cabin top, added the rollers on the end fittings and supplied the roller fittings for the cabin top.

Paul, also read the Nov. 2005 Tech Notes.  Reminder to check if you have the track through bolted.  Good pictures there, too.

Stu : I believe that the first year production (1986) was the only year that did not have the traveler rail thru bolted.
Also not that the picture shows an new improved (ball bearing) mainsheet block attached to the traveler car.

Another.  I used Spinnlock swivel cam cleats on cabin top so that traveler line rotates and is easy to operate from anywhere in the cockpit.

Thanks, Noah, that first picture has the "roller" I mentioned.

Paul,
I upgraded my traveler by leading both lines off the port side.  Every new boat I notice has the traveler set up that way.  It required to lead both lines through the dodger.  I'm in the process of mounting two cam cleats to secure the lines.  I work my traveler quite often and having the lines on opposite sides was always a hassle. We'll see how my upgrade works out this coming season.

thanks everyone,
I spoke to Guido at Garhauer today and ordered the upgrade along with the blocks to run the control lines forwards to a block then aft to the cockpit parallel to the other lines.

Seems like that way introduces more friction?
