Saw this picture in Cruising Compass....  Hey, is this the same Mike Stimmler on this site?  If so, how did you snap it....hanging over the edge of an aircraft carrier?

Yes, that was me. You'll notice that it was in 1970 and I don't think selfie sticks were invented yet. Craig actually got it right, I was on the hanger elevator but I think I used a standard 50mm lens, not a telephoto. Thanks for noticing though. Now that I look at it though, I'm thinking that it was a 200mm telephoto.

You'd never get a shot like that today; the sailboat would be blown out of the water for being that close to the carrier...   :shock:

Yeah I meant the sailboat in the picture.  If you were on the carrier today and took a pic from the same spot there would be nothing but the bow of the carrier and water because no other boats would be allowed within half a mile...
