Fresh air engine hoses

Hi all,

The P/O removed the fresh air engine hoses (the ones that look like the hoses on the back of dryers).  I believe these connect to the air vents on the port and starboard side, but where do the other ends go?  Do they just lay in the engine compartment?

Are these used in conjunction with a blower (which I don't seem to have).  With a diesel, how important is a blower?

Yes the hoses are supposed to connect to the vents on the aft coming of the cockpit.  They are routed into the area near the transmission.  The port one is the exhaust, hose in bilge runs up to the blower that is located on the coaming near the engine panel and then to the vent.

Hi,

Those white hose that you talk about, they just lay down on the floor under the berth.
They don't go all the way to the engine.
Well in my case.

Greg : The white 4 " plastic wire reinforced hoses are there for ventilation.

The port side hose is connected to the blower and the starboard is just for incoming fresh air.

I use the blower if I've had the propane ON for awhile, otherwise a blower is not necessary with a diesel.

Your blower switch should be on your instument panel.

My blower was mounted on the aft side of the rear panel of the port lazarette.

The blower makes a bit of noise when running.  Try it first with the engine off.  Key off, blower switch on. You should hear it running if it is still installed.  If it runs feel for air coming out of the silver vent aft port side.  If you feel air, one part of the hose is still in place.

Guys : On a MkI, just remove the engine instrument panel and you'll see the blower and the white hose.

A number of use have installed another VHF just under the engine instrument panel (6" Beckson port access) and have moved the blower/hoses to accommodate this modification.

A few thoughts.
