The C-34 community will be deeply saddened to learn that Grant Reed passed away on his boat last month (Patty Cake C34#1519).  Please join me in keeping Patty, his wife, and the rest of the Reed family in out thoughts and prayers.

Grant suffered a heart attack moments after he and Patty had cast off and were motoring out their C-34 at the very beginning of a long anticipated cruise around the Keys.  He had just retired in September.

A toast to a life well led and a fitting end that just came far too soon.

We’ll miss you, friend.

I didn't know him but am saddened by the story.  So many of us work hard and save so that we can enjoy our passion-sailing.  We often have thoughts of retiring and sailing away, and dream of that magic day. Only problem is,  Life is often unpredictably short.  But for many of us "security" minded folks, we try to strike a balance with work and play.  We have kids, and college, houses and cars...all of the entrapments that civilization brings.  We don't "Go simple, go small, go now",  thinking we'll do it later.  But there are no guarantees that there will be a later.  I hope Grant found a balance that didn't leave him too short changed.  And I hope that his family finds solice in his memory.
