Another version of solution to "fix" deck organizers

As soon as I hoisted my main for the first time, I discovered the not so optimal line routing from the blocks at the base of the mast to the deck organizers. I bought a $3 cutting board and made a couple of 3/8" thick spacers to lift them up a smidge. 1/2" would've been better, but these were a definite improvement. So, $3, plus a couple of more $ for some 2" long 1/4-20 screws and a bit of sealant, and voila. The blocks are 2" X 5 3/4" and the 5/16" holes I drilled are 2 1/2" center-center, in case anyone wants the details.

Great job, I paid a bit more for my "upgrade" but the effect is the same, easier movement of the halyard, and less wear and tear on it too.

I'd be curious to see if you still like them after sailing with them for a while.  I'd think they're more of a tripping hazard now.

I don't think they'll be any more of a hazard than they are now. They actually are pretty well placed, IMO.

Looks like a good idea Ed.  I did a similar thing with exactly the same material on my previous boat to raise new Spinlock clutches that I mounted up to the right height.  Six years later and nothing is any worse for wear.  I couldn't stomach the price of starboard for something so simple.  Looks like yours is a nice clean installation. 
I'm not too happy with the "bullet" leads on my traveller.  The lines come off the deck organizer ok but they don't run fair through the traveller leads.  I assume everyone has this isse.  I know the answer is to get a Garhauer traveller... that will be on my list for the 2013 Toronto Boat Show.

I am doing a similar upgrade, however I did use teak and purchased the ballbearing organizer from Garhauer.  My question is:  How far below the deck is the threaded plate and how much head room is there beyond the plate?  Just trying to head to the boat with the right stuff the first time.

I just put on a new "stack" of organizers on top of the old ones.  It seemed a very close space between the deck and the plate.  About 1/2 inch (I didn't measure it, sorry).

I have my pieces cut and ready to use.  I was wondering what type of sealant is best to use to bed the organizers down.
