West Coast Catalina Rendezvous 2011 & SF Bay Rendezvous, too

Is Catalina doing it this year?  I emailed Sharon in March and asked to be put on the email list.  She replied back quickly that she'd email me info when it's available.

I emailed her on 5/9 and never got a reply.

Catalina is very slow about publishing event news.  It has been announced, so they are planning on having it.  Sign up via the web site and eventually you will get the info.  Sometimes calling Sharon works better than email.

Scotty, yes, there is, July 15-17, Marina Bay Yacht Harbor.  I noticed you asked this question on the Fleet 1 section in General Activities.  That thread has an email for Scott Lee, our cruise director.  Email him, or Ray Irvine, to get the details.  Look forward to meeting you, hope the leg is healing properly.

Is it normal practice for moderators to change posts here?  The title of my post has been changed.  Do you change post content as well?

My post was about the West Coast Rendezvous hosted by Catalina Yachts on Santa Catalina island.

I think it would have been more appropriate to start your own SF Bay thread then to hijack mine.

It's not hijacked, it's "added to" simply because another skipper asked the question.  Doesn't take away from the content, does it?

When I post something on a forum, it's implied that the post was written by me.  If it is modified by a moderator, typically there would be some kind of note.  Like ("From Moderator: Link to vendor site removed--If interested in advertising on this forum please look at this link for details on sponsorship")

My post was about the West Coast Rendezvous, and now it's about the SF Bay Rendezvous.  I really don't care if somebody asks a question about another event in my thread.  What I object to is the title of my post being changed, MY WORDS being changed, to reflect that I'm inquiring about 2 events. 

If you're not familiar with the term "Thread Hijacking", here's the definition from http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=thread%20hijacking

Taking over a thread on a message board by taking a part of the original posted topic, twisting it around and "hijacking" the thread itself. What happens is that the original content contained in the post becomes moot and whatever the "Thread Jacker" has manipulated the content to be becomes the new content thereby "hijacking" the original intent of post. People now respond to the "thread jacker's" input and the that becomes the focus of the tread.

So it does in fact take away content, as it shifts the focus.

Nope, now it's simply about both.  Somebody DID "ask a question about another event" in your topic, not me.  "Manipulative?"  Hardly.  All I did was make it easier for folks on the west coast to know about two events that just happened to be discussed in the same thread.  I'm really sorry you feel this way about it.  I'd be glad to take it off your initial post (in fact, you can do that yourself by "modifying" it), and I'd be glad to start another one which would link right back to this one!  How productive is that?  I simply thought that since someone added the SF Rendezvous to this topic that folks who were only browsing the topics would be aware that both were being discussed.  And as you can see, some were very interested.  Thanks for the link to thread hijacking.  That happens sometimes, and I call it thread "drift" which is why I do embedded easy-to-use links all the time.  Thanks for your contributions, keep 'em comin', and thanks for reminding folks that the Catalina Rendezvous in southern California is coming up.
