Hello

What is the better way to drain the engine and water heater antifreeze ?
I looked in Wiki and did not find...

Thank You!

Fou : There are a number of ways to drain the coolant - one of which is to open the petcock on the starboard side of the engine under the injection pump.  It was put there by Kubota/Universal just for that purpose.

BTW, why are you draining the coolant - just to get some new "juice" in there?  If so, think about using the extended life (orange) coolant as it lasts longer and will mix with the green (that may stay in the system.  A thought

When I drained my coolent from the petcock to replace my heat exchanger, I had to use a piece of stiff wire to poke into the hole of the petcock to clear the clogged orifice. Also it required pliers to turn the valve handle and the clearance is tight in there to turn the handle. Normally straight out is closed and you can turn it either left or right to open it. It helps if you have a piece of hose to attach to the petcock to catch the juice.
You also may want to consider pulling the two hoses off the water heater to drain the coolent in the hoses.
A few more ideas.

Guys : As Mike said the petcock is "backwards" - OFF is straightahead and ON is 90 degrees to the side!!

I found the best way to turn that petcock lever is with a small "crescent" wrench and attach a piece of hose to the petcock nipple that will drain into a container.
