Got an estimate to paint the hull of the Mary Dee 34 ft  a Hunter Green   $6,500 ...    Good/ Bad ?????
will take 3 weeks to complete   here in North Carolina

Ted Pounds

That sounds pretty good to me.  The paint alone runs $200 a gallon.  Make sure you get some references and check out some of their other work.  The key to the whole thing is the prep work; very labor intensive.

how about any ideas of which color ????  we should put on the MaryDee

The green is nice, but I've always been partial to Flag Blue...

Our previous boat was a Blue C-27. It was beautiful. However, as with any dark color, any scratches through the paint will stand out like a clothed person in a nudist camp.

No experience but I've always heard that cabins temps on dark hulls were much hotter than with a lighter color.  Something to consider with all the sun and 90+ temps you get in NC.

I'm sure everyone knows this one.

The darker the color the more the defects show.  That prep work that would produce a good looking white paint job would be lacking for a dark color.  Also dock scuffs and fender rash shows up more on darker colors.  But then thats only close up, at a boat length most imperfections are not seen.  What ever color you chose the boat will still have the pleasing lines of the Catalina 34.  You can't go wrong.

I paid $4,500 to have my C&C 27 painted....and that was 8 or 9 years ago...and the guy gave me a good.  Paint has gone up since then too.  What a difference though! Made my boat look brand new.  I've since sold her and I was able to get top dollar for her.
