I was about to put it in the vee birth after which I could not return it. In this heat I wondered how it would stand up in the marine environment. Do these dept store products do ok or is there some cotton or other materials that is less likely to disintegrate, absorb moisture etc than the these dept store mattress topper memory foam products?

Cliff,
We put a 2 1/2 inch one in our V-birth 2 years ago and it has held up quite well....... and we love it.

We got ours at Sam's Club

This is our third season for our 4" memory foam mattress from WalMart.  Use it in the aft berth.  Sleeps a lot better than the boat cushions.  We put slats from IKEA under it.  It has held up just fine.

We used the memory foam for three years.  Then, we had a mattress factory make a special firm bed mattress to fit our aft berth. Two piece about seven inches tall.  Now, we store the orginal pads and use the mattress. We were quite satisfied with the foam but are better pleased with the mattress! Thinking about having the same thing done for the vee berth.  Best of luck taking those wonderful on board naps.

Cliff, I used to think anchors and electrical systems were the only things to parallel religion as boating issues.
You've added yet another one!

My late mother-in-law spent two years trying to find another mattress.  She finally decided on a foam one and hated it from the minute she slept on it for a full night 'cuz it was too hot for her.

I just bought a mattress for our bed, and I tried it out in the store and ended up deciding on a "medium firm."  I love it 'cuz I found from even trying a memory foam in the store that it was too hot and too soft.

But that's for me, and only me.

If your boat is dry, the source shouldn't matter too much, if any at all.

Your boat, your body your choice. :clap

The C34 Store also has the Froli System.  Good luck.

WE used a 2inch memory foam cut to fit in the V birth. It was good but we rolled it in a sailbag for storage when we were not using it. After the first year it started tearing on the edges and finally it was so ripped we gave up and ordered a tuffted topper. It is not as soft and giving as the memory foam but a lot better than the std mattress. (maybe it was the hot climate here in S Florida that caused the foam to deteriorate, I think it was  a serta so not just a elcheapo..

I was thinking of the Froli or the tufted topper too but The Admiral bought the Macey's memory foam. Perhaps you are right that I just am not crazy about foam mattresses. She has a bad back, so we'll do it her way!!
