Just kidding, Tom.   I actually think the MKII is a better ocean boat than the MKI (depending on the rig).   Either is an excellent choice for coming down the west coast.  If you take your time, weather is reasonably predictable and the boat can handle a lot.   

In an ocean passage it's a different deal.   Beyond a few days out, the weather is what the weather is and there's no ducking out.  I look at my enormous cockpit and my two tiny little scuppers and that is my biggest concern in taking this boat offshore.   The MKII might take a little more water in now and then, but it would drain a whole lot faster... 

Alaska and Mexico.  Why not do it all?   Sounds like a great plan.
