In the - I hate to admit this but....

I took my propane compartment out of my 97 mkII many months ago.  Putting it back I can not find the two solenoid wires that I cut, to splice back too.

Can anyone (with a similar vintage boat) tell me where the wires going from their propane tank's solenoid are ran/located? this would probably involve looking underneath the propane compartment, from the cockpit's starboard lazarette.

I thought they ran from the solenoid on the aft starboard side, beneath the cockpit, to the port side and then forward. No cut wires there.  But they might run forward along the starboard hull and then cross over somewhere below the interior cabin. if this is the case they could have gotten pulled into the plastic sleeve other wires run into.

Thanks for any help.

Two of the hardest things to do on this message board is to help with sounds and smells.  The third is where the wiring on your boat is located. :D

I would start at the other end:  from the propane solenoid switch in the cabin, and trace the wiring out from that switch to where ever it goes.  If you can't find one end, start at the other!

thanks,   the solenoid switch is on the main breaker, so all the boat's breaker's wires are bundled, so it will take cutting a bunch of tie wraps to track it.  Don't know where the other end is, keep hoping it will just show up.  If it doesn't show up I'm going to put a new switch in by the stove, probably should be there anyway.

Cook : Look around the outside of that propane locker for (as I recall ) for 2 black wires.  If you pull (gently on them) and there is some give - you've found them.  Sorry I can't be of more help.

You may be able to find it with a tone generator and inductive probe typically used by telcom techs. You connect a small tone generator in one end, than you can trace the wire along the bundle or just go to the area where you think it should be and listen for the tone.

Putting a switch near the oven is not a bad idea either.
