oil on air intake

I noticed yesterday after checking my oil level that I had a thin oil slick on the air intake. I'm hoping that this was simply the result of a previous drop or two of oil from the dipstick (when it was previously removed) that found its way through the mesh filter onto the intake itself. Could anything more ominous explain this?

Thanks in advance,

Ken,
If I understand your situation, you say there is a small amount of oil on the foam air cleaner.  I believe that is normal.  The proper procedure is to have a small amount of oil on the filter element to help trap debris.  After you clean the filter, you are supposed to coat it with a small amount of oil, just a very small amount.

Ken : You could be right on your drop of oil.
When I check my oil I don't remove the stick.  I pull the stick up an inch or two and break the air seal(so the oil seeks it's level).  Wait a moment and reseat the stick.  Then pull up the stick and look at the oil level near the full mark.  Saves dripping oil on and around the engine.
