Are you sailing (and from where?) or trucking your boat?

brant

Hi-
The boat is in a slip in the marina at Hualtuco, Mexico.  That is about 200 miles from Guatemala.  We'll return to the boat in November and head across the Gulf of Tehuantepec and on down the coast.  No schedule, just be in Panama by about May 1, 2005.  You can use my e-mail address, brant@suwa.org for further communication if you'd like, or continue on the message board.  Is Liquid Courage nearby, or headed toward Costa Rica?

Sorry for the delayed response, but we have been in Florida, living and working on Wildflecken II (C34 #1023)and doing some great sailing. A great time, but no internet.

We will be back in Costa Rica August 10th....how may we help?

Hi-
From your original message I was not able to tell whether you had your boat in Costa Rica or not.  I will be leaving Hualtuco, Mexico around the end of November and sailing south through Guatemala, El Salvador and into Costa Rica probably in February.  I was hoping you had your boat on the Pacific side where I will be, and that you might have some local information or suggestions that would be helpful as I moved along.  I now know that your boat is in Florida and not likely to be where I'm going.  If we do pass close by, it would be nice to meet you and share c34 stories.  I've been to Costa Rica once before, on land, and I enjoyed it very much.  Hiked across the Oso peninsula, etc.  Hope your experiences are as good as mine.  Thanks for the reply.  If you are interested in maybe getting together, contact me a brantcalkin@hotmail.com.  Good Luck with your boat work!

I've only been sailing about a year, and bought my 86 c34 (SABBATICAL)3 months ago.  Can a C34 realy sail from Houston, TX to Costa Rica?  Would I have to hug the coast all the way, or is she capable of crossing the gulf?  Did your boat need extensive retrofitting?  I thought I might have to wait until I could afford a bigger,  "blue water boat" before making such a voyage.

I hope that my questions don't sound to terribly naive, however, I am going to attend a 3 month "Professional Mariners Training" course at the Chapman sailing school in Florida for a crash course, and to try to get some answers to my endless questions.  I have the ASA 101 certificate, have read a dozen books and sail every weekend... but I feel that I need the more advanced knowledge and face-to-face training for the inevitable life or death situations.  Weather still stumps me.  Navigaion still stumps me.  I don't know if I need a GPS, chartplotter, radar, sextant, water maker, all of these, or anything else!!!

Come hell or high tides, I'm gonna go cruising.  I've got the burn!  I LOVE MY C34!

I'm very glad I found this site.
