I believe I have the definitive answer to replacing the potentially dangerous leaky exhaust system.
remove old riser from manifold using liquid wrench and 3/8 drive socket ( extension from aft to reach bottom nut/stud.) Cut away old hose from muffler.
purchase new flange from westerbeke.(w/gasket, new studs and nuts) about 60.00. Buy new galvanized pipe from plumbing supply or hardware store. Clean manifold and muffler flanges.Apply resin to muffler flange base to seal and strengthen. Assemble pipe sections to new flange and fit/adjust on engine. disassemble riser, seal threads and install with new hump hose from catalina about 40.00 with new stainless clamps. Run engine, check for leaks and then wrap with 1 inch heat tape. Sound easy right? not a hard job, just a little awkward. My water injection tube was in good shape, so if yours is leaking, you need to do a little more research to find one. Questions? Skisail42@aol.com. or post here and i'll respond

yeah, ron I thought galvanized would be better, but your not the only one who has pointed out that black pipe is better. I just thought the Gal. would protect against rust which seemed to be the downfall of my last pipe. I guess I will be doing it again somday. Time will tell, for now, it works super. thanks
