Per the recent Spartite topic, I will be repainting my mast in the next couple of weeks.  One of the main areas of corrosion is around the SS halyard exit plates.  These SS plates are currently attached to the mast with SS rivets which i will drill out.

My current thought is to re-attach the plates using aluminum rivets and use a silicone bead as a gasket between the SS plate and the mast to hopefully eliminate the corrosion that bubbles the paint.

Anyone have any experience or other ideas in this area of corrosion control?

thanks

Silicone will work, but Lanocote is better.
