My depth gauge raymarine started working sporadically last summer. From what I have read it is a good chance that it is because of wire connections that I need to clean. However I would like to clean the surface of the transducer before I launch the boat. Has anyone cleaned one before? Sandpaper? Steelwool? ???

glenn : You just might have a bottom paint buildup?  I'd use some light sand paper after cleaning off the face.  There is special transducer paint for just that purpose.
