We are still using the Xantrex inverter/charger system and Link Panel 2000 for remote management of the batteries on our 2005 Mk II.  It was original equipment and is showing its age--inverter won't go to the on position from the panel nor will the panel allow me to reset the Amp Hours Used anymore.  Has anyone replaced their Xantrex with a new inverter/charge system that you would recommend us doing also?

Thanks

Victron, hands down. Magnum would be a decent second choice but we've had some issues with transfer times at GF marinas so have been doing a lot more Victron Multi's. I would not wish current $antrex products on my worst enemy.

I replaced my Link panel when it started to lose functionality.  I gave up counting amps and installed a Xantrex remote control panel.

I found that the basic battery monitoring functionality satisfied my needs and I don't miss the precise  amp hour tracking.   And the inverter works fine.

Thanks for the info.  Another quick question.  As I recall, when we purchased the boat about 10 years ago, I could turn the inverter on without having the generator on when we were at a mooring in Catalina, though if we were doing anything more than watching TV,  I had to run both the generator and inverter to fire up the microwave.  Now, I have to have to have the generator running for the inverter to function at all.  Is that the way your inverter works?

Chuck,

How big is your inverter (i.e., what is the Freedom model number?), how big is your house bank and how old is it, and what size is your generator?

In general, the answer is no.

My Freedom 10 inverter comes on with just the batteries.  Mine is a 1000 watt inverter and we have no issues running a Keurig coffee maker off it.  You might want to check the fuse between the inverter and the batteries to make sure it isn't blown or has a bad connection.

Chuck, I have a Freedom 15 and a Link 2000.  I also have a handy dandy instruction sheet from Xantrex about how to reset your Link 2000 if you have problems with it.  It is an addendum Xantrex issued that is far more detailed and specific than the one in the manual.  If you'd like it, let me know.  I got it from Xantrex back when I first installed the Link in the early 2000s.  It works to solve some operational issues well beyond just  stuck buttons.

One thing I forgot to mention about the replacement Remote Control Panel is that the panel cutout is exactly the same as the Link 2000 panel. It made for a very simple installation.
