saw this on another site.  seems like it ought to work.  

"BTW some Dawn dishsoap in your motor bucket or garden hose if using "ears" does a fine job of getting the salt out. Old dude with an inboard taught me that and his motor appeared as "new" which simply isn't possible where I live. He also never had to change his exhaust manifolds and risers so there must be something to it. If running in a bucket I let it go for a bit then throw the hose in there to keep the water level up and slowly dilute it to just water."

Could easily do the same thing with the raw water system for the engine.

I added " " to the first post to make it more clear.

I don't think the brand matters, Dawn advertises great grease cutting ability while being kind to the environment.  I think using any detergent that advertises execellent grease cutting should work.
